Residents can begin planning their journeys as fares and travel options to the new Beaulieu Park Station are revealed ahead of the expected opening at the end of October.
The first new station on the Eastern Mainline for over 100 years will be operated by Greater Anglia and provide travel to London Liverpool Street in 40 minutes with four trains per hour in the peak and two trains per hour in the off-peak.
The new station has three platforms, a new track for passing trains, a taxi rank, drop-off areas , ticket vending machines, no ticket office, and several ways to reach the station. These include:
- Bus connections – the C11, C9, C8 and 73 operated by First will be extended to stop at Beaulieu Park Station from opening day
- Car park run by Chelmsford City Council and another by Greater Anglia – 752 parking spaces in total, including 38 free of charge for Blue Badge holders and 10 electric vehicle charging points. Tariffs and opening times can be found on the city council and Greater Anglia websites
- A network of walking and cycling routes connecting the Beaulieu and Beaulieu Park residential areas to the station have been provided by the developers, Countryside and L&Q. There are options between free covered bike storage and paid secure storage at the station
- Disabled access – step-free access, two lifts to all platforms and braille throughout the station
There are several important features and amenities such as accessible toilets, baby change facilities, space for retail/catering, and a gate line.
Road users will be able to reach the station via the new A131 Beaulieu Parkway relief road, which connects to Essex Regiment Way in the west and the Boreham Interchange to the east.
The station will transform travel in the north of Chelmsford as it eases pressure on the city’s existing train station and reduces car journeys into the city centre.
